First look at the new interceptor from Matthew Gratzner's UFO

NEWS - MOVIE NEWS

Interceptors launch, as we finally see (a bit of) what will keep those pesky aliens away...

Matthew Gratzner's new design for the interceptor in UFO (2011)

The first bit of production design has been released from Matthew Gratzner's TV-->movie adaptation, UFO. The first poster features a teasingly side-lit view of the classic interceptor, and it looks amazingly cool. Gratzner and his team spent six weeks working on pre-production visualisation for the film in fall of 2009, and word is that original UFO designer Mike Trim might get a say in the look of the new movie too. Trim designed pretty much all the main vehicles for the original 1970 Gerry Anderson TV series, incliuding the original interceptor, SID, the mobiles and Straker's car. Here's the original concept sketch that Trim came up with for the SHADO interceptor for Derek Meddings VFX unit:

And here's the sleek version that Meddings himself put in the show...

The UFO interceptor (UFO, 1970)

The moon-based interceptors came in fleets of three, each equipped with one missile to defend Earth against the alien invaders who were trying to land and steal our body-parts.

I am really looking forward to this movie!
