Gears Of War movie the new Phantom Menace?

All that nasty violence might be a bit much for us at the moment...

Producer Wyck Godfrey has let slip a possibly alarming insight into the tone of the pending Gears Of War VG>movie adaptation, with the news that the franchise-starter will be an origin story for the spectacular war between humans and locust.
"I think we really want to focus on the idea of a world that's running well," Godfrey told MTV. "And then it's Emergence Day and kind of make it impactful and immediate and the survival of those 48 hours as people survive Emergence Day. It's more like Cloverfield or something like that."
In terms of setting up the situation, this makes sense, yet falls into the trap of making GoW fans until the second movie to actually get any of the combat action that hallmarks the VG franchise. Those of us who dozed through the trade negotiations of The Phantom Menace must feel a terrible disturbance in the force around now.
"Trying to tell the epic story of an alien planet that's living in a horrific environment just feels like the wrong mood right now."
This is debatable, but if the makers of the movie really feel like that, might it not be a good idea to make it some other time?
