'Twilight'-makers tackle 'Dracula'

Producer Brad Pitt to keep 'Interview' fangs wall-mounted, for the moment...

HeatVision report that Twilight producers Summit are working on a new all-action take on Bram Stoker's seminal vampire novel Dracula. Not directly an adaptation of the 1898 penny-dreadful, the new movie is based on a script called Vlad by actor Charlie Hunnam. Brad Pitt's Plan B production company is working the property, with music video director and photographer Anthony Mandler set to helm at the moment.
From the sound of it, this take on the old vamp will settle on territory only briefly touched on in the last big Dracula adaptation (Francis Ford Coppola's Bram Stoker's Dracula) in that it will concentrate on the young and sexy Vlad The Impale. Thus the trend trend to cast young (if not teen), exemplified by Matt Smith's appointment to Doctor Who, seems unkillable.
Coppola's deceptively titled opus added a considerable amount to the essenceof Stoker's original, including the myth/legend that Our Vlad came home from a long and bloody campaign one time to find that his love (played in the movie by Winona Ryder) had killed herself upon hearing false news of his death. If that isn't a recipe for more Twilight-style teen heartache, I'll eat a bushel of garlic.
The new project is described as a 'visually edgy and radical period movie', a description equally applicable to From Hell or Van Helsing, so no real clues as to tone just yet.
Hunnam is currently featuring in Sons Of Anarchy on FX.
